Saraki, Lawan loyalists disagree on senate majority leader

SEN. SARAK
Abuja - A meeting called by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to broker a truce between the party's senators has ended in deadlock, reports Punch.

The meeting, which was held on Monday at the residence of the party’s National Chairman, John Oyegun failed as the warring APC senators refused to shift grounds on how the other principal officers in the Senate should be selected.
The warring APC senators are divided into two camps. One group, the Like Minds, is loyal to the Senate President , Bukola Saraki, while the other camp, Unity Forum, is led by Ahmed Lawan, who lost the Senate Presidency seat to Saraki.
While Lawan’s group with the support of some APC leaders wanted the party to choose the occupants of the positions, the Saraki camp maintained that the principal officers must be produced by the various zonal caucuses in the Senate.
Monday’s meeting was the first time the two camps will be meeting since the emergence of Saraki as the Senate President.
