Legends of
the game were joined by current stars such as Serena Williams and
Roger Federer to take part in an event hosted by Nike on the streets of New
York.
The cast -
who boasted 86 Grand Slam titles between them - also consisted of Rafael Nadal,
Madison Keys, Nick Kyrgios, Maria Sharapova, Andre Agassi, Grigor Dimitrov,
John McEnroe, Eugenie Bouchard and Pete Sampras.
The
gathering took part in New York's Greenwich Village - invoking memories of
Nike's famous 1990s guerrilla tennis advert in which Sampras and Agassi jumped
out of a taxi to set up a court and start in playing in the middle of a busy
street.
In the
recreation, the players came out onto the courts one-by-one to considerable
applause before knocking the ball around in front of fans.
McEnroe took
to the umpires chair to oversee proceedings.
Sharapova
later tweeted: "Lets be honest, only Nike can make this
happen..."
The even was
held just days before the the beginning of the US Open (August 31),
and Agassi tipped Federer for the title.
"He's
timeless", said Agassi. "I think the favourite going into the
tournament is [Novak] Djokovic but I think it's up for grabs."
