crooner Nwamaka Sam Ejehu, a.k.a
Maka, is not your conventional artiste. From her signature haircut to her
Afrocentric sound, Maka is one rising singer you should watch out for.
In recent times, Maka’s sound and
delivery has been compared to that of Asa and Bez, she however doesn’t want to
be seen in that light. Hear her: “I should point out that I am very flattered
to be compared to Asa and Bez, however, I can’t really say I sound like them.
All I do is create the music that
comes from within me, being myself and letting the music flow.” Maka tells Showtime that
originality is key if an artiste must become great. “Originality is key.
The ability to stay true to yourself
while syncing with the flow of change that comes with the times and despite
learning from greats, will set you apart from the crowd,” she says.
Speaking on the reason behind her
unique haircut, she says she has never been one to do things the normal way. “I
always wanted to cut my hair. As for the style, well, I have never been one to
do things the normal way. I just had to give my low cut look a little bit of
edge that is why it is in a punk style,”she reveals.
