At least 87 people have been killed and more than 185
wounded when a crane crashed into the middle of Saudi Arabia's Grand Mosque in
Mecca earlier today.
It is believed the crane had been blown over by strong winds
and storms, breaking part of the roof and causing rubble to fall on those
praying below.
he Saudi Civil Defence authority confirmed the incident on
Twitter and gave details of the number of casualties.
General Suleiman al-Amr, director general of the Civil
Defence Authority, told al-Ikhbariya television 183 people were injured.
"All those who were wounded and the dead have been
taken to hospital. There are no casualties left at the location," he
added.
