Apple has revealed the latest model of the iPhone at a massive
launch event in San Francisco this evening. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will take the
place of the current iPhone 6 models as Apple's flagship smartphones.
Although the two new gadgets will keep the same 4.7-inch and
5.5-inch sizes of last year's phones, Apple has added some extra features and
improved the performance.
There's a new colour in the line up - the heavily rumoured
"Rose Gold".
One of the heavily rumoured extra features was 3D Touch
(borrowed from the Apple Watch) and Apple confirmed it will be in both new
phones.
The 3D Touch feature lets you press the screen harder and
the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will pick up the difference in pressure.
That comes in handy if, for example, you're using the phone
for gaming and want to vary the pressure of a particular shot or jump.
Apple has also increased the quality of the camera on the
back of the phones to 12-megapixels, improving on the 8-megapixels of the
iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
As well as taking better pictures, the new iPhones will be
able to shoot video in 4K quality - which is four times as detailed as regular
high definition video.
Selfie fans haven't been left out as Apple has increased the
FaceTime camera to 5MP. It says it will make selfies more detailed than ever
before.
The new iPhone will take Live Photos - which means it takes
second and a half’s worth of frames either side of your snap.
It means if you do a force touch on the photo, the picture
will “come alive” and show you the motion around the captured moment.
It’ll be supported on all your devices too - from Mac OSX El
Capitan right down to the Apple Watch. You can even set Live Photos as your
Apple Watch face.
Apple has also increased the power of the new phones with a
brand new processor it calls the A9.
It’s 70% faster than iPhone 6’s A8 chip on CPU tasks, or 90%
on graphics.
