The 18-month-old toddler was spotted floating in the water wearing a life jacket in the sea off the city of Aydin.Local news reports state two boats capsized in separate incidents in the Aegean Sea on boats heading to Greece from Turkey on Wednesday. Two refugees are reported to have died and 31 are still unaccounted for following the incidents.
A total of 15 people were rescued from the sea from one of the boats. Shocking footage showing the desperate rescue of the toddler has emerged today.
The fishermen appear to think the toddler is already dead when he is spotted floating in the water.
They are heard saying "Oh my God, there's a baby there too" after seeing refugees floating in the water, before exclaiming "he's alive, he's alive". The boy was pulled from the water and the men performed CPR on the toddler. A group of refugees - including more children - floating in life jackets are then spotted nearby and pulled onto the boat.
