Les
Miserables cast member Kyle Jean-Baptiste has died aged 21.
The star,
who was the youngest person on Broadway to portray Jean Valjean, passed away on
Friday after falling off his mother's fire escape.
A rep for
the show told BroadwayWorld.com: "The entire LES MISERABLES family is
shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable
young talent and tremendous person who made magic - and history - in his
Broadway debut.
"We
send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their
privacy in this unimaginably difficult time."
Jean-Baptiste
usually portrayed Constable and Courfeyrac but was an understudy for the role
of Jean Valjean.
He made
history this month by portraying Valjean, becoming the youngest Broadway star
to do so.
Jean-Baptiste
described it as his "dream role".
He tweeted
at the time: "Today I go on as my dream role. No words. Guna remember this
night."
